Kakamega residents are revelling in a new and elevated shopping experience as Naivas Mall introduced the town's first-ever escalator, marking a novel chapter in the local shopping scene.

Many were delighting in this modern convenience for the first time.

The residents of Kakamega openly expressed their joy as the supermarket within the mall unveiled the escalator, providing them with an entirely new and exciting experience.

Pomp and colour accompanied the event, drawing hundreds of residents who flocked to the mall in large numbers, eager to try the escalator, while others opted to experience the lift.

Interestingly, a significant number of individuals appeared to feign shopping activities. After selecting items from fridges and shelves, they left them scattered on the floor, dashing to ascend the escalator.

This phenomenon even led to a viral video on social media, capturing the moments of enjoyment as people filled the escalator. For many, it seemed an entirely new and unprecedented sight, adding an extra layer of excitement to their shopping ventures.

Not only did the locals eagerly embrace the experience, but the supermarket staff also hurriedly joined in, with some attempting to exit as soon as the escalator reached the ground floor.

The scenes witnessed at Naivas supermarket, being the first establishment in Kakamega town to feature an escalator to date, are nothing short of comical.

While some patrons appreciated the opportunity to try something entirely new for the first time, others remained apprehensive and hesitant. "I cannot try the escalator because onlookers are left bewildered. I will do so after the excitement ends," said one lady.

However, the situation took a downturn as individuals experiencing an escalator for the first time found it challenging to adapt to the moving stairs, leading some to resort to sitting on the machine.

The police officers and security guards faced a daunting task as they struggled to manage the swelling crowd, which was verging on a stampede. "We have, in certain instances, been compelled to remove children who refused to exit the escalator forcibly," said one of the security officers.
