American rapper and hip-hop star Snoop Dogg has announced his decision to quit marijuana, or at least, stop smoking it.

The rapper, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, shared the news with his 82.5 million followers on Instagram, stating, "After much consideration & conversation with my family, I've decided to give up smoke. Please respect my privacy at this time."

This revelation may surprise some, considering Snoop Dogg's longstanding openness about his affection for weed, even boasting about smoking in the White House.

His involvement in various marijuana-related ventures, such as the pot-focused media company "Merry Jane" and a line of cannabis products, as well as investments in Casa Verde Capital, a venture capital firm supporting marijuana start-ups, further underscore his association with the cannabis industry.

Snoop Dogg's affinity for marijuana has been widely publicized, with reports in 2019 revealing that he had a dedicated staffer solely responsible for rolling his blunts.

Additionally, in 2021, he disclosed on Reddit that he indulged in 81 smoke breaks a day.

Online, his followers were quick to comment, some making fun of the situation.

Pouya: We are officially in a new world.

Samenthaf: Doesn't he have a dog named Smoke?

Rawkandroll: I've tried that but wasn't as happy tbh (although the first week dreams were crazy fun).

Jimmyhumilde: Best decision ever brotha...can't trust the weed now days. Different times.

Microtdh: Not smoking is the new smoking.

Adrianfitnat: When Snoop stops smoking the world is done.

The rapper, however, did not specify what form of smoking he was stopping, leading his fans to speculate that the post was a marketing stunt for his cannabis company Leafs By Snoop.

The company specializes in making its own cannabis strains, concentrates, flowers and edibles.

In a separate post, Snoop requested privacy during this period.
