Steve Harvey and his wife Marjorie

American TV host and comedian Steve Harvey has jumped to the defence of his wife Marjorie, dismissing claims that she ruined his previous marriage.

Harvey clarified that he divorced Mary Shackelford in 2005 and Marjorie came into the picture a year later, maintaining that she had nothing to do with their separation.

Further, the Family Feud host described his wife as a good woman who has been by his side all along.

"The woman I married is a good woman. She's the best thing to ever happen to me. She's God-fearing, she's loyal, she's faithful, and she's a kind and loving person.

"I don't care what nobody say-and y'all quit talking about she was in my other marriage and ruined it. She didn't. She was nowhere around that," he said.

A lot has been said in recent weeks regarding Harvey's marriage, but he set the record straight, talking about how he was broke and Marjorie's role in helping him find his feet.

"In 2005, I had nothing. I lost the radio show we were on in L.A. on May 23, and I lost the only TV show I had on May 10. Steve Harvey had no money. Got with Marjorie on New Year's Eve, met her, talked to her.

"She was with her kids in Hawaii, we got together in 2006, we had nothing. She didn't marry into no riches. I had nothing when I asked her to marry me at the end of 2006," he said.

On another segment of the Steve Harvey Morning Show, co-host Shirley Strawberry issued an apology for remarks she had previously made in a leaked phone conversation concerning Harvey and his spouse.

In the conversation, Strawberry, who is currently separated from her husband Earnest Williams, said Steve harboured fear of his wife and exhibited condescension towards others.

In her apology, Strawberry clarified that her intention was not to contribute to the ongoing drama surrounding the couple in relation to the rumours of infidelity but rather to acknowledge that she had spoken carelessly.
