US-based Kenyan comedienne Elsa Majimbo has claimed that she gave out all her money to the needy after coming to the realisation that she could impact society in a more positive way.

Through a video posted on her Tiktok page, Majimbo said that about a year ago she instructed her managers to donate all her money.

"A little over a year ago, I asked them to drain all the money in my bank account and give it to people who need it more than I do.

"When I came to this decision they were telling me, you've earned it, you're so talented, you're so deserving but other people are so talented too, why aren't they in my position," she said.

She further added that she felt she had enough and would not lose by giving to those in need.

"I have more. And I will always have more. And I want my blessings to bless other people.

"Like I just didn't need that kind of money to support my lifestyle. And don't get me wrong, I don't deprive myself of luxury, I fly first class, I like a nice Gucci bag, I love a nice Prada bag, but still, there's more left," she said.

The 22-year-old rose to fame during the pandemic as her hilarious videos gained her considerable following.

She, however, has a bitter-sweet relationship with her home country, Kenya, and has in the past said she was not appreciated back home.

In an interview with Forbes, Majimbo said she received a lot of backlash from Kenyans when starting out and she claimed she was profiled.

"I have a very complicated relationship with Nairobi. When things started going on well for me there was a lot of backlash to me and there were a lot of colorist things said towards me and surprisingly its people from Kenya who were doing that and they were bullying me on the internet," said Majimbo.

She vowed never to return to Kenya unless she's visiting her parents.

"They were hell bent on my failure and it was so absurd. When the whole world was cheering me on Kenya was praying for my downfall so when I got the chance I packed my bags and I left. I'll go to see my family but I left and I'm never going back," she told Forbes.

Majimbo, who grew up in Kenya and later relocated to South Africa and the United States, said she discovered her talent in high school and her first video performed well online.

Asked whether she was the funniest in her family in an interview with Steve Harvey, Majimbo said none of her family members thinks she is funny.

"The first time I showed my dad a video of mine he was like, 'Where is the funny part?' and I was like, 'The video is over,' she said.

"They are all way funnier than me but I am the one who got to make a career out of it," she remarked.

Majimbo said South Africans have really supported her through reposting her videos and that is how brands came on board.

She said she never thought she would be a comedian as she always imagined herself as a lawyer or an engineer.
