A man has been sentenced to five years in prison for constantly threatening to kill his former wife and her family.

David Ng'ang'a agreed to go behind bars following a plea bargain.

His former wife, only referred to as WC, told the court she received threatening messages on her phone on several occasions.

The mother of two said things took a turn for the worse on February 10, 2020 when Ng'ang'a sent her a message, saying: "I will have to do something that reflects the pain I am feeling. I cannot die of bitterness alone. Even if you come back to my house we will die together."

The court heard that the accused would issue death threats to WC whenever they had an argument. Fearing for her life, WC reported the matter to the police station, leading to Ng'ang'a's arrest. He admitted the offence when he was arraigned.

WC said she had to take legal action because she heard the accused had gone to her rural home (they are neighbours) armed with a knife.

Ng'ang'a was said to have warned her that he would kill her parents. "I had to seek help from the authorities because our lives were in danger. The accused would go wild whenever he was drunk. I and my family decided to enter into a plea bargain agreement so that we give him a chance to change," she said.
