Jalang'o: I have a lot to learn as a first-time MP

Lang'ata MP-elect Felix Odiwuor on Saturday thanked all those who voted for him but admitted that he has a lot to learn as a first-time legislator.
Speaking ahead of Azimio La Umoja's Elected Leaders Inaugural Conference at KICC, Jalas, as he is popularly referred to, thanked the incumbent, Nixon Korir, for showing political maturity and said he would consult widely to ensure he transforms Lang'ata.
"I want to thank the people of Lang'ata who overwhelmingly voted me in. I also want to thank the incumbent Nixon Korir who conceded and was present as I was being given the certificate.
"He (Nixon) said we will work together and support each other. This win is not about me but the people of Lang'ata. As a first-timer I have a lot to learn," he remarked.
Jalas said he was aware of the task ahead of him but he will bring together the residents of Lang'ata who demonstrated peace and calm throughout the election process.
"There is a lot to do but we shall work as a community. All the five wards. The people of Lang'ata are very peaceful. They love each other and they love peace.
"When Nixon saw it was not going his way he showed maturity in politics. We need peace and development," he added.
Earlier this week, Korir conceded defeat even before Jalas was declared the winner and he issued a statement to that effect, thanking Lang'ata residents for the opportunity they had accorded him.
He added that politics should not be about enmity as he wished Jalas well in his new journey.
"To the people of Langata, I sincerely thank you for according me an opportunity to be your Member of Parliament for the last 5 years.
"It's been a great opportunity that gave me an avenue to contribute to our nation building and service to the people. From the results that we've tallied at the Generali center, my competitor Jalango has a lead and I want to congratulate him as he prepares to take the mantle and move Langata forward.
"Siasa si chuki. God bless Langata," he wrote.
