Kenya and France have agreed to jointly organize the Africa-France Summit, to be hosted in Nairobi in 2026.

The announcement came after a meeting between France President Emmanuel Macron and Kenya's William Ruto, held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The summit is expected to bring together various Heads of State and government from across Africa, along with representatives from civil societies.

The forum will focus on finding solutions to challenges related to climate and the environment.

It aims to promote a constructive form of multilateralism, in line with the Paris Pact for People and the Planet and the Nairobi Declaration, which emerged from the Africa Climate Summit last year.

The summit will also address governance reforms that safeguard the stability and functionality of global monetary and financial systems.

Kenya will be the first African country to host the Summit

"For the first time since its inception in 1973, the Africa-France Summit will be held outside of France or a Francophone African country," Statehouse Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed noted.
