Kenyan diaspora in the US is demanding the withdrawal of the controversial Finance Bill 2024 and a reassessment of previous tax increases.

Led by their spokesperson, Fan Murianki, they insist that these protests reflect the people's voice rather than being used as a tool for suppression.

"We urge swift withdrawal of the contentious Finance Bill and a reconsideration of past tax hikes affecting Kenyans, especially the youth," said Murianki.

"The peace of our nation is paramount, and the demonstrations on the streets represent the voice of the people, akin to the voice of God. Mr. President, heed their calls and restore order. No amount of taxes should jeopardise our nation's peace."

The diaspora's outcry follows heightened protests against the Finance Bill 2024. On Tuesday, June 25, demonstrators stormed Parliament, bringing operations to a standstill.

MPs sought refuge in the basement as they fled an angry crowd demanding accountability. Protesters accused legislators of prioritising personal gain by passing the bill against the wishes of Kenyans.

The incident resulted in property damage, including a section of Parliament being set ablaze.

President William Ruto has condemned the events as treasonous and pledged to uphold constitutional order. He has assured Kenyans of their security amidst the ongoing protests against the Finance Bill.
