Friends and relatives of Rita Tinina were yesterday struggling to come to terms with the veteran journalist's death.

Tinina was discovered dead at her house at the Brooklyn Springs Apartments in Kileleshwa, Nairobi.

The cause of the death was not immediately established as she had not complained of any ailment before she retired to bed on Saturday night.

She was supposed to be on duty at the NTV. Her colleagues got concerned after the journalist failed to report to work to prepare for the 1pm bulletin.

She lived with her nine-year-old daughter and a house girl, who told the police that she realised Tinina was not waking up as expected.

When the house help knocked on the door to her bedroom, there was no response. And since it was not locked from the inside, she walked in only to discover that Tinina was unresponsive.

The woman then alerted a family friend who was last with Tinina on Saturday night. The friend called the police.

Tinana also worked at Standard Group's KTN.

When the news of her death broke out, several journalists rushed to her house where the police officers had taken over.

Many people, including colleagues, fans and leaders, took to social media to mourn her.
