President William Ruto.

On Tuesday evening, President William Ruto announced that the Kenyan mission to lead UN Security Support Mission to restore peace in Haiti would go on, but just not now.

The president made the revelation via his personal Twitter page, eliciting reaction from netizens.

In the tweet, the president disclosed that he had had a conversation with the United Nations Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and together they agreed to halt the mission until US and partners from a presidential council to look into the Haiti issues.

"Had a telephone conversation with United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken on the developments in Haiti. Secretary Anthony Blinken briefed me on the decision of the Summit of Caribbean Countries (Caricom) and the US, together with other partners, on the political situation in Haiti," the president's tweet reads in part.

"He informed me that a new Presidential Council will be formed shortly to manage the situation in Haiti. I assured Secretary Blinken that Kenya will take leadership of the UN Security Support Mission in Haiti to restore peace and security in Haiti as soon as the Presidential Council is in place under an agreed process,".

President Ruto's sentiments come a day after Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry resigned from office, after a massive prison break nd gangs taking over the country.

On Monday, leaders of Carribean countries met in Jamaica to deliberate on the ongoing unrest in Haiti.
