Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Issack Hassan is among the candidates shortlisted for High Court Judge posts by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

JSC has shortlisted 100 individuals for interviews to fill the 20 vacancies of the High Court judge.

The interviews will kick off from April 3 to April 30, 2024.

Mr Hassan, who recently published a book mirroring his role in managing elections, took over the electoral agency after the exit of former chairman, the late Samuel Kivuitu following the disputed 2007 General Election.

The other shortlisted candidates include senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecution Alexander Muteti, who has successfully prosecuted several high-profile cases in Mombasa.

Former Mombasa Chief Magistrate Joyce Gandani, who presided over the Court Martial at Kenya Navy Mtongwe Base, which handed 25 ex-soldiers life imprisonment for dissertation of duty when the country was at war, has also made it to the list.

Gandani also presided over the case of a British terror suspect, Jerremain Grant, who was jailed for seven years for being in possession of materials for making bombs.

Other candidates are former Mombasa Chief Magistrates Messrs Julius Nangea and Francis Kyambia.

Joe Omido, Joseph Kalo and Harrison Adika, who are in Mombasa, have been listed for the interviews.

Emily Ominde, who once served in the JSC, has been shortlisted again after she did not make it last time.

The commission has shortlisted 100 candidates out of 305 who applied for the High Court Judge job.

Among the advocates shortlisted are Dr Stephen Ouma, Timothy Karuiki Mwangi, Erick Kipngeno Korir, Benjamin Kimani Njoroge, Dr Andrew Barney Wanjala, and Alice Chengetich Bett Soi.
