Supreme Council of Kenyan Muslims (SUPKEM) has announced the end of a four-year leadership dispute that has plagued the association.

Amb. Yusf Nzibo, the elected chairperson of SUPKEM, addressed the media on February 19 and declared his legitimacy after a lengthy legal process.

"The judiciary arm of our honourable government has confirmed me as the rightful chairperson of SUPKEM, and dismissed attempts by one Hassan Kiirua Ole Naado to impose himself as the chairperson," he said.

"The Registrar of Societies has also affirmed the legitimacy of the national office bearers, reinstating the rightful leadership of SUPKEM as per the last annual General Meeting and Elections last held in October 2017."

He also accused the previous leadership of mismanaging the Muslim council and misappropriating funds.

Nzibo said there were instances of unauthorised USD withdrawals made in haste, which raised serious concerns and warranted a thorough investigation into a potential offence related to embezzlement.

He vowed to address the financial irregularities and ensure transparency within the council. He also promised to lead SUPKEM with transparency, inclusivity, and integrity.

The SUPKEM chairperson said he would work to restore the trust and confidence of the Muslim community in Kenya and beyond.
