President William Ruto is set to leave the country for Kampala, Uganda today, State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohammed has said.

The president is scheduled to attend two key meetings in Kampala, whilst also holding bilateral talks with other Heads of State and leaders.

Ruto will attend an Intergovernmental Authority of Development (IGAD) meeting on regional cooperation development, and the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement.

The IGAD meeting is in line with Kenya's commitment to stability and progress in the Eastern African region, while the summit aims to discuss issues of multilateralism, international peace, and Covid-19 recovery strategies.

"President Ruto will contribute to discussions on key priorities such as reforms of the United Nations, peace and security, Sustainable Development Goals, climate change, and the reform of the international financial system," said Mohamed.

At the same time, the president will hold bilateral meetings with various Heads of State in a bid to strengthen Kenya's relations with her neighbours.

It was not immediately clear how long Ruto will be away.
