eCitizen revenue collection surpasses Sh900m in a day

The government has surpassed its revenue collection through the eCitizen portal on a single day, crossing the Sh900m mark.
In a press release on December 21, Immigration and Citizen Services Principal Secretary Julius Bitok stated the government had hit Sh 900 million in revenue collection in a day.
"The latest data from the online access and payment platform for government services reveals that Ksh903.6 million was collected on Wednesday, December 20, 2023," said PS Bitok.
He further explained that of the total revenue collected nearly a third was generated from transactions in US dollars totalling to 51,446,495 compared to the Ksh680.4 million in the local currency.
He attributed the increase in collections to the previous directives given by President William Ruto in June to all state agencies to transfer all their services on the eCitizen platform before the end of the year.
"All government money will be paid through 222222 directly to the Treasury and then the Treasury will make sure that that whole eco-system works. If there is money going to a particular ministry, the Treasury will ensure that the cash goes to the respective ministry and agencies," President Ruto said.
The initiative was intended to inject better management and transparency in revenue collection and to stem leakages from numerous collection points.
The CS stated that as a result, the daily revenue collection rose to an average of Sh.300m last month.
Further, data from the Treasury revealed that in November, Sh.4.664B was collected up from Sh 1.44B in June.
The amounts for July, August, and September were Sh.2.36211, Sh.3.636B, and Sh.4,233B respectively.
The government looks forward to increasing its revenue from an average of 5,000 new users who sign up for eCitizen daily in addition to the 11 million eCitizen existing users.
