The clergy is failing Kenya, Canon Wainaina says

The Clergy in Kenya should also be blamed for the bad leadership in the country Reverend Canon Wainaina says.
According to Wainaina, among the many roles of the clergy, is to influence the removal of bad and corrupt government and participate in various political activities to bring a positive transformation in society.
However, the clergy has failed to do so as it is now sheltering corrupt leaders and promoting corruption and deceit even in the Church.
Speaking on Spice FM, Wainaina said the clergy has become brokers for politicians who in return reward award them with brown envelopes.
"The problem in this country is not the politicians. It is the religious leaders who benefit from this corrupt system at an individual level and corporate level," said Wainaina.
According to him, the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition during their campaigns posed as religious people who understood the ways of Christ and how governance should be. However, after assuming office, that has changed.
"Many had faith in President Ruto because he came strong as a Christian and he showed us he knows the hustler life but today we have a government that suffers trust deficit. They are making Christianity hated by people because the same people who campaigned turned around quickly and now, they cannot listen to Kenyans," he said.
Giving reference to Christ, Wainaina said a Christian leader who is chosen, has to do things differently just as Christ did.
This is because leaders create a culture and have the power to change things.
However, the political elite in the country seem to enjoy the trappings of power at the expense of the Wanjiku.
Further, when giving in churches, Wainaina says politicians are no longer giving to please God but they are doing so for their selfish gains and the clergy has allowed them to do so as they also benefit from it.
This Wainaina says takes away the role of the clergy in governance as their voices are bought.
In the process, Kenyans end up losing faith in the religious leaders and places of worship.
