The Director General of the Haitian National Police, Frantz Elbe is in Kenya on a three-day official visit.

He will hold bilateral security discussions with various security chiefs among them, the Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome.

On Wednesday, Frantz met Koome at the National Police Service Headquarters in Nairobi where the two discussed an array of issues on matters of security.

The meeting was attended by various security heads among the Deputy Inspector General Administration Police Service, Noor Gabow.

"The Haitian Police Chief who is leading the Haitian delegation is on a three-day official visit to Kenya for bilateral security discussions between the two law enforcement agencies, till Friday, Dec 15, 2023," NPS said on X.

A source privy to the meeting has revealed to The Standard that the delegation is on a fact-finding mission about the preparation of Kenyan police to be deployed to the Caribbean nation.

A fortnight ago, Kenya had sent its representatives to Haiti where they also held talks with the security chiefs in Haiti including the Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry.
Parliament on November 16 approved the deployment of 1,000 police officers to Haiti in a United Nations-approved mission aimed at pacifying the Caribbean nation to tackle gang violence.

This was despite a Nairobi court extending an order barring the government from deploying the officers through an interim injunction following a case brought by Thirdway Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot who argued that the deployment was not backed by any law or treaty hence unconstitutional.
