CS Kuria cautions police over extorting Xplico-insured motorists

Public Service Cabinet Secretary has warned police officers against asking for bribes from motorists covered by Xplico Insurance Company.
This comes a day after the company was placed under liquidation by The Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA).
In their statement, IRA said Xplico is no longer allowed to issue any new insurance contracts and advised existing policyholders to find other licensed insurers to avoid any risks.
In a statement on X, the CS said it is unreasonable to expect innocent policyholders to get new cover over the weekend.
"I have received reports about traffic police officers asking for bribes from PSV owners who have cover from Xplico Insurance which was only put under receivership yesterday," said Kuria.
Kuria added that any officer caught asking for bribes risks losing the job.
"I have raised this issue with IG Japheth Koome. Any police officers especially around Eldoret Town who are doing this, do it at your own risk. I urge all PSV owners not to pay any bribes," he said.
On Friday, IRA also announced that Invesco Assurance Company Limited has also been put into liquidation by the Official Receiver following two insolvency petitions filed by some of its claimants in Malindi and Nairobi courts.
The insurer's license has been cancelled, and the Official Receiver has taken over its affairs.
Just like those insured by Xplico, Invesco's existing policyholders are advised to seek alternative coverage from other licensed insurers
