Murkomen: New terminal at JKIA to be built in 3 years

A new terminal will be constructed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) within three years, Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen says.

This comes days after CS Murkomen formed a committee to assess the state of the country's airports after a video of a leaking roof at JKIA emerged online.

While appearing before the Senate plenary on Wednesday, Murkoman further revealed that the government had plans to initiate the construction tender on January 15, 2024.

"We are in the process of working on a new Public Private Partnerships (PPP) model of a new terminal that we should be advertising on January 15, 2024, and hopefully by June, we can get the relevant contractor so that in the next three years we have a completely new airport," Murkomen told the senators.

The CS was asked to appear before the lawmakers, to shed more light on the status of transport facilities in the country.
