Ruto hosts Sudan's Al Burhan at State House, agree to speed up Jeddah process

President William Ruto on Monday, November 13 met with Sudan Army Chief President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council of Sudan, Abdel-Fattah Al Burhan, at State House, Nairobi.

The two leaders held bilateral talks on the recent security situation in Sudan and the region.

They also reviewed the state of ongoing peace initiatives, including the Jeddah and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) peace processes.

Ruto and Al Burhan underscored the urgent need to find a solution to the conflict in Sudan in the shortest time possible.

During Monday's meeting, the two, recognizing the slow progress in Jeddah, the leaders underscored the urgency to accelerate the process towards cessation of hostilities and humanitarian assistance.

They also agreed to work towards the convening of an urgent IGAD Summit to find ways to accelerate the Jeddah process towards cessation of hostilities in Sudan.

The Summit will also agree on a framework for an all-inclusive Sudanese dialogue.

President Ruto further committed to brief the IGAD Chairperson on this meeting.

The warring factions in the ongoing Sudan conflict are meeting in Saudi Arabia for peace talks.

The Jeddah talks are mainly about ceasefires, facilitating humanitarian access, and conditions for a broader peace process.

The talks are being steered by Saudi Arabia and United States officials. IGAD has also joined the peace talks.
