HELB says disbursement of student loans underway, asks institutions to allow registration

The Higher Education Loans Board has announced the start of funds disbursement to over 175, 000 students who depend on the loan for upkeep.

This comes a day after students of Multimedia University staged a demonstration over delayed disbursement of funds.

In a statement released Wednesday, October 4, CEO Charles Ringera has pleaded with universities and colleges to allow students to register pending funds disbursement.

He also says the funds will start reflecting in the bank accounts from Thursday, October 5.

Additionally, Ringera has said that the deadline for first years applying for the loan is October 7, after which their funds will start reflecting.
