Various Heads of State and governments from different African countries have arrived at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi for the Africa Climate Summit.

The Summit is set to be officially opened by President William Ruto on Monday, August, 4, 2023.

Over 300,000 delegates and over 25 Heads of State and government are expected.

The leaders started arriving in Nairobi as early as Saturday night and were received by Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua and Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha.

Questions have been raised on why Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is not the one receiving the leaders as protocol dictates at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

It is understood that Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi is in Zimbabwe for the inauguration of President Emerson Mnagangwa's inauguration.

Below are some of the leaders who have already arrived in the country;

President of the Republic of Burundi Evariste Ndayishimiye who is also the Chairperson of the East African Community. He was the first Head of State to arrive in the country.
CS Mutua also received the President of Comoros and Chairperson of the African Union Nana Akufo-Add who is the President of the Republic of Ghana.

Also welcomed to the country was President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic Brahim Ghali.

On Monday morning, Mutua was also at the JKIA to receive the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone Julius Maada Bio.

Ruto arrived at the venue of the Summit, Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) where he was received by his deputy Gachagua, Environmental Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya and other leaders.

Ruto had driven himself from State House to KICC in an electric vehicle.

The Africa Climate Summit is scheduled for September 4 to 6. It will run alongside the Africa Climate Week which starts from September 4-8.
