Motorists in Nairobi have been warned of traffic disruptions during the Africa Climate Summit week, running from September 4 to 6.

Nairobi Regional Police Commander Adamson Bungei on Friday, September 1, said that a section of key roads leading in and out of Nairobi will be closed from Monday to Wednesday next week to ensure the safety of the dignitaries and delegates attending the forum.

"All we were urging for is cooperation from the motorists as we look forward to a successful event. We will have traffic officers directing traffic in and out of the event venue," Bungei told journalists at the steps of Harambee House, Nairobi.

Among the roads expected to be closed include; Parliament Road, City Hallway Junction, Taifa Road, and Harambee Avenue.

Motorists have been advised to seek alternative routes.

"Vehicles from Thika Road intending to access Waiyaki Way and Nakuru's general direction should use the Eastern Bypass or the Wangari Maathai Road and vice versa. Those headed to Mombasa Road from Thika Road should use the Eastern By-Pass or Outering Road while vehicles approaching Waiyaki Way from Nakuru should use Mombasa Road or the Southern By-Pass," stated Bungei.

At the same time, Bungei assured Kenyans of heightened security during the summit, adding that enough security personnel have been mobilised to ensure everything runs as planned.

"At least 3,000 officers drawn from different departments including the National Youth Service have been given a brief on security operations that includes redirecting matatus plying different routes," he said.

President William Ruto is expected to open the summit at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) where over 3,000 leaders from different African nations are expected to attend and deliberate on matters climate solutions in Africa.

More than 20 Heads of State will be in attendance during the three-day conference.
