The implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the country is halfway done, according to SDGs Kenya Forum Executive Director Florence Syevuo.

Addressing journalists on Thursday, August 10 in Nairobi, Syevuo noted there had been numerous setbacks globally that stalled the progress on most SDG targets, including the Covid-19 pandemic, climate tragedy and the Russia-Ukraine war.

The 2030 agenda for SDGs was adopted in 2015 and embodies the development blueprint for the world.

Kenya has seven years to achieve its commitment to SDGs, hence, a need to double its efforts.

"Now more than ever the world needs all hands-on deck to recover and accelerate efforts to achieve the SDGs, with Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) becoming an indispensable tool of tracking and reflecting on the development progress made," said Syevuo.

Kenya is on track towards attainment of two SDGs i.e responsible consumption and production and Climate action.

SDG goals that have been moderately achieved are; Quality Education, Gender Equality, Affordable and Clean Energy, Industry Innovation and Infrastructure and Life Below Water.

Equally, goals that are not progressing fast enough include; No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Good Health and Well-being, Clean Water and Sanitation, Decent Work and Economic Growth, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Life on Land and Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.

"By prioritizing clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, sustainable infrastructure, inclusive cities, and effective partnerships, we believe that Kenya can progress towards a more sustainable and equitable future."

Other stakeholders present during the meeting were the Council of Governors, Kenya Parliamentary Caucus on SDGs and Business, Association of Media Women in Kenya (AMWIK) and the Media Council of Kenya (MCK).
