Mary Wanyoyi Chebukati sworn in as CRA chairperson

Mary Wanyonyi Chebukati has been sworn in as chairperson of the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA).
She was sworn in by Chief Justice Martha Koome on Monday, July 17 at Supreme Court buildings after her appointment by President William Ruto on May 23.
She will take over from Jane Kiringai, who retired on February 2023 after serving commission for six years.
Ms Wanyonyi is the wife of Wafula Chebukati, the former chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
She is a Certified Accountant and certified mediator who also hold a master's degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor's of Commerce (Accounting).
Wanyonyi has over 30 years of experience in accounting and before her appointment, she was serving as the Senior Deputy Accountant General and Head of the Accounting Unit in the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development.
President William Ruto picked Wanyonyi from a final list of three that had been forwarded to him by the PSC following the interview.
Wanyonyi's nomination sparked a heated debate with some MPs claiming that she was only picked because of her status as wife of former IEBC chair, claims that were refuted.
Members of the committee, who spoke in support of Ms Wanyonyi's appointment, had indicated that they focused on her qualifications and not her spouse.
