Kindiki sets up new GSU camp to curb clashes

A General Service Unit (GSU) camp has been established at Nkararo-Enoosaen in Trans Mara West, Narok County, following a spate of violent attacks over boundary disputes.
The dispute has become an emotive issue between the two Maasai clans of Siria and Uasin Gishu, resulting in death and destruction of property.
The origin of the dispute is a cut line between Nkararo/Enoosoen border in Trans Mara and the land in dispute is not more than 30 acres.
Interior CS Kithure Kindiki on Friday visited the area where he held a consultative meeting with political and local leaders.
He said the government will carry out a disarmament exercise in the area and directed the community to surrender their illegal firearms before forceful disarmament begins.
The CS said those found walking around with bows and arrows will also be arrested.
"The officers here have one instruction to fight crime and deal with criminals, I assure you, and the officers deployed here will stay forever. I promise you, you just try anything and the government will deal accordingly," said Kindiki.
He said Kenya Defence Forces will be deployed if the need arises, adding that 47 suspects linked to the recent clashes that led to several deaths and injuries have been arrested.
Kindiki directed security agencies to apprehend all persons, including political and community leaders who are found inciting, orchestrating, or funding violence.
"You must arrest all criminals, those who try to fight our officers will be neutralised. If you are a leader inciting locals to gain political mileage, you must stop," he said.
Further, he said that any historical grievances, including land disputes, should be resolved peacefully and within the law.
"Boundary dispute should not be used as an excuse to kill, torch houses, destroy property, and subject women, children, and children to suffering," he said.
Narok Deputy Governor Tamalinye Koech also called on Nkararo residents to maintain peace.
