Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has appointed lawyer Adrian Kamotho Njenga to be the Chairperson of the Transport Licensing Appeals Board.

In a gazette notice dated May 26, Kamotho has been named the chair of the board for a period of three years with effect from today.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 39 (2) of the National Transport and Safety Authority Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport appoints Adrian Kamotho Njenga to be the Chairperson of the Transport Licensing Appeals Board," the notice read.

As the chairperson of the board, Kamotho is tasked to hear appeals against decisions of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) relating to the issuance of licenses, revoking a license, and suspending a license.

Kamotho takes over the chairmanship of the board from Dickson Waweru, who took charge in 2020.

Last month, Kamotho was also appointed as the chairperson of the Capital Markets Tribunal.

The lawyer was a member of the UDA Party's Electoral and Nominations Dispute Resolution Committee.

He was one of the 57 lawyers who represented President William Ruto in the 2022 presidential petition tabled by the Azimio la Umoja coalition.

In 2020, Kamotho sued the government before the Environment court to compel the Ministry of Transport to construct washrooms at designated points on major highways for use by long-distance travelers.

He holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of Nairobi.

In other appointments gazetted on Friday, Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndungu appointed Hillary Marrimoi and Raymond Nyamweya, to be members of the Competition Tribunal, for a period of three years.
