President William Ruto has appointed Mary Wambui Mungai as the new chairperson of the Board of Communications Authority of Kenya (CA).

Wambui will serve a period of three years effective today, Friday, December 2.

The businesswoman replaces Gilbert Kibe, who resigned from the position on Friday.

In his letter to President William Ruto today, Kibe said he was quitting over personal reasons.

"Due to personal interests that I wish to pursue, I hereby tender my resignation as Chairman of the Board of the Communications Authority of Kenya with effect from December 1, 2022," Kibe said in the letter copied to Communications and Digital Economy CS Eliud Owalo.

Kibe held the post for seven months, having been appointed by former President Uhuru Kenyatta in May this year.

Wambui, a director of Purma Holdings Limited is not new to controversy. She was in December 2021 arrested over Sh2.2 billion tax evasion saga, alongside her daughter, Purity Njoki Mungai.

Purma Holdings Limited, a company that has won several government tenders, deals in general supplies.
