Lukreshia Elizabeth Robai, a 22-year-old nurse who went viral after she was captured dancing in a hospital ward has spoken for the first time.

Robai caught the attention of netizens after posting a video on TikTok, dancing and entertaining one of her patients - a child.

The nurse revealed to The Standard that she is a student at the Kenya Medical Training College, Kitale.

"I wanted to be a medical practitioner because I love taking care of the sick. I have never thought of any other career," she said.

When asked what inspired her hospital dance, she said: "The inspiration is very natural, not driven by anything. I have a program called Project Transformational Dance ministries [TDM] where I dance in the hospital. I love dancing for fun, especially to cheer up the patients. Mostly, I dance when administering drugs to my patients."

When she first uploaded the video, she says the reception was low but would pick up hours later.

"At first, when I posted the video it had very little engagement, unlike my previous videos. It picked up after two hours. Then screenshots from Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook started going around."

"The reactions were confusing but it was an amazing feeling. So many people have reached out including Governor Natembeya as well as friends and family," she adds.

But what is her driving force?

Robai was raised by a single parent, who died a year before she sat for her secondary school national examination.

"I grew up in a single-parent family. I have never met my father," she disclosed.

She narrates how she was raised in a difficult background and the hardships she faced growing up.

Her education journey wasn't easy either, she says. She told The Standard that her mother took bursaries to educate her.

When her mother died, her school, Kinyago Secondary School supported the remainder of her education.

After sitting her KCSE exams about four years ago, the school administration offered her a scholarship which has seen her through tertiary education. "It feels so nice to be part of people's everyday lives. That brings me a lot of joy and a satisfying feeling," Robai said.

By Tuesday afternoon, Rioba's viral video had over 900, 000 views and about 3,000 comments on Tiktok

She is an active content creator with over 85, 000 followers on the video-sharing platform Tiktok.

Robai hopes to impact lives through dance.
