Post-mortem date for Cyrus Jirongo to be decided today

The autopsy that was expected to be performed yesterday (Monday) to determine the exact cause of death of Cyrus Jirongo was postponed.
The family, friends and funeral committee will decide on the matter today (Tuesday). Speaking to The Standard, former Nairobi city town clerk Philip Kisia who is in the funeral committee chairperson said all they have decided on is the interment date and the final resting place of the former minister.
"We will update you about the post-mortem tomorrow in the afternoon. It didn't happen for several reasons but we are finalising things so that the autopsy is done. For now all we have agreed on together with the family is that the late Jirongo will not be buried in his Kitale farm but in his village in Lumakanda," said Kisia.
Jirongo died in a tragic road accident along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway last Saturday morning. Speaking to The Standard, former Vihiga senator George Khaniri said Jirongo's body has been sealed and put in freezer awaiting a thorough autopsy that will be conducted by the government and the family pathologist.
"He has not been embalmed until we know what really happened and if there were anything in his blood or body that could help us know what really happened."
Khaniri also explained the question many Kenyans on social media have been asking. Why was a man of Jirongo's status driving himself?
"Jirongo since he started having drivers believed in being a fair employer. Work hours are 8am to 5pm. After 6pm he usually released his drivers to go home to their families," clarified the former Vihiga Senator.
This is in sharp contrast to many politicians who keep their drivers waiting in the parking lot as they make merry late into the night. According to Khaniri it was standard Jirongo practice to drive himself in the evenings so that no matter how late in the night he stayed out his driver will still be fresh and well rested in the morning.
Friends of Jirongo have hired an independent auto accident investigative expert whose preliminary report poked holes into the official police report. Some of the many questions posed include: How can a methodical man who left Karen at 11:15pm and was heading home divert to Naivasha yet he had no plans of any post midnight meetings in his diary?
"When travelling outside the city, Jirongo usually uses Silas his trusted driver. Friends say he releases his driver at 6pm everyday unless he is to travel outside the city," explained Khaniri.
The accident report from the police seen by The Standard indicated that Jirongo’s Mercedes-Benz E350 was involved in a "head-on collision" with at Karai in Naivasha.
Other queries put forward by the forensic reports includes: How does the police report classify this as a head-on collision when the Mercedes shows extensive rear-left damage consistent with being hit from behind first, not from the front?
