The Defence Department has received the largest share of the security budget in the 2025/26 financial estimates.

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi revealed this while presenting the Sh4.2 trillion national budget to Parliament.

According to Mbadi, the Defence docket has been allocated Sh202.3 billion, the highest among all security-related agencies.

The National Police Service followed with Sh125.7 billion, while the National Intelligence Service (NIS) has been allocated Sh51.4 billion.

The Interior Ministry will receive Sh32.5 billion, and the Prisons Services Department has been allocated Sh38.1 billion.

"In addition, I propose an allocation of Sh10 billion for the leasing of motor vehicles and Sh3.6 billion for the police modernization program," said Mbadi.

To strengthen the fight against crime and improve the justice system, the Treasury has also proposed Sh1.2 billion for the construction and modernization of national forensic laboratories.
