Gachagua meets Kenyans living in Botswana

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Saturday evening met more than 250 Kenyans who live in Botswana.

The meeting which was also attended by Kenya's High Commissioner to Botswana Mohamed Shidiye took place at the Avani Hotel in Gaborone.

He encouraged them to invest back home, saying Nairobi will work with Gaborone to improve their stay and solve issues raised during the meeting.

Gachagua who left the country on Saturday morning is in the country for a four-day working tour, where he will represent President William Ruto at the second edition of Forbes 30 under 30 Summit Africa.

Besides speaking at the Summit, which brings together the Creme De La Creme in youth entrepreneurship, Tech, Health/Science, Creatives, Sports, and Arts among other categories, he will hold several bilateral meetings including with the host President Dr Eric Mokgweetsi Masisi. These talks will be on fostering the relations between the two countries.

Other Kenyans who will speak at the event include Mr Julius Mwale, an industrial entrepreneur and investor in the technology, energy, health, retail and construction industries.

Ms Charlot Magayi, the founder and CEO of Mukuru Clean Stoves, will also speak at the prestigious event. She is one of the four Kenyans who emerged top in the Forbes 30 Under 30 in 2022.

The other three Kenyans who scooped top awards in 2022 include Comedian Elsa Majimbo, Dr Joan Ruguru Kimani, and e-gamer Sylvia Gathoni. In addition, Kenya's popular boys' Band, Sauti Sol, will perform on Sunday.

Gachagua is accompanied by his wife Pastor Dorcas Rigathi and the Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs Roseline Njogu.

At the 2023 Forbes Under 30 Summit Africa, the Deputy President will share a panel platform with the Vice President of Namibia Dr Nangolo Mbumba and Nigeria's Minister for Youth and Sports Development Sunday Dare, in a session to be moderated by Forbes Africa Managing Editor, Renuka Methil.

The topic of their discussion will revolve around the Africa Rising trajectory, with a focus on their individual country's economic and political agenda.

On arrival at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport Saturday afternoon, the DP was met by Botswana's Foreign Affairs minister Dr Lemogang Kwape, the country's Chief of Protocol Ms Benetia Chingapane and Amb. Shidiye.
