The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) launches investigations into rape, shooting and assault allegations against police officers during the General Election.

According to the Anne Makori-led Authority, the three incidents under investigation happened between Monday, August 8 and Wednesday, August 10.

In a press release dated Saturday evening, the IPOA chairperson said that most of the police officers had conducted themselves within the law in this election as compared to the previous ones.

"Though largely the police have so far conducted themselves within the law, the Authority has noted isolated incidents requiring its investigative attention," Makori said.

IPOA has promised members of the public to look into an incident where two men were shot and a woman assaulted allegedly by the police in Eldas in Wajir County.

It has also pledged to look into a rape attempt incident on August 10. It is alleged that the suspect is a Matisi Police Station officer, in Bungoma County.

The police oversight body will also look into a shooting and serious injury incident allegedly involving a police officer on August 8 and a political aspirant's bodyguard in Uasin Gishu County.

"IPOA is also observing how the Police continue to manage crowds, and maintain security and order during this electioneering period. IPOA remains committed to being independent, impartial and fair," Makori said.
