All tenants accounted for in collapsed Uthiru building

UPDATE: All 34 tenants of the apartment block that collapsed in Uthiru last night have been accounted for, the Nairobi City County management has said.

Four occupants who were reported missing by midnight are also accounted for. A multi-agency team is still on the ground assessing for more damage.

Yesterday, we reported that a five-storey building collapsed in Uthiru, Nairobi.

The building came down between 9.30 pm and 10.00 pm on Tuesday, May 7.

The Standard has established that the building sits opposite the International Livestock and Research Institute (ILRI) office on Naivasha Road.

At the time of publishing, a multi-agency team comprising the National Police Service (NPS), Kenya Red Cross, and Nairobi County Fire Brigade was on the ground, assisting with recovery and evacuation efforts.

At about 11.00 pm, Kenya Red Cross officials confirmed that 10 people who sustained minor injuries had been attended to.

According to a police report, all families have been accounted for, except two, an adult and a minor.
