The Nairobi City County Government has activated an electronic Unified Business Permit (UBP) in a bid to ease online business licensing.

The UBP that comes into effect today, January 1, will be available on the County Government's Nairobi Pay Revenue service online portal and will combine all businesses, fire, food, health, and advertising licenses into one.

Governor Johnson Sakaja speaking after confirming the activation of a unified permit said that it will boost service delivery by conveniently allowing entrepreneurs to pay for their licenses online.

"We continue to make Nairobi work, and I am glad that the UBP has now been activated as part of a deliberate effort to improve the ease of doing business in this city. This electronic solution eliminates the issuance of multiple business permits in various service points, which has also been a key revenue leakage risk," said Sakaja.

The County boss further noted that a unified permit is expected to help Nairobi County boost its source revenues performance.

"With the activation of the UBP issuance on the Nairobi Pay Portal, the county government is now on course to generate and reach its target of Sh20 billion in Own Source Revenues to fund development projects in the city," he added.

The activation of the UBP eliminates the issuance of multiple business licenses.

The Nairobi County Government has also extended the land rates waiver to January 31, 2024.
