Obado did not have any motive to kill Sharon, former MCA tells court

A former member of Homa Bay County Assembly has told the court that former Migori Governor Okoth Obado had no motive of killing university student Sharon Otieno.

Lawrence Mula in his second day on the dock testified that Obado treated the lady so well by catering for her needs and that he believes the ex-governor could have not hatched any plot to eliminate her.

"The way things were moving between Obado and Sharon was so well that no one could think of killing her. I could not suspect that Obado or his personal assistant Michael Oyamo could have any intention of killing Sharon," said Mula.

Mula, who had told trial judge Cecilia Githua that he was the middle man in Obado and Sharon's relationship, testified that the ex-governor was open about his affair and even promised to take care of Sharon's baby after delivery.

According to Mula, the ex-governor had admitted to his wife and children that he had an affair with Sharon which resulted to a pregnancy and that the family had no problem of him taking responsibility of the baby once born.

He added that Sharon had also shared with Obado's family members including his elder son who was aware of her pregnancy.

Mula was being cross-examined by lawyers Rodgers Sagana representing the ex-governor and Ogada Meso representing Oyamo.

Obado, Oyamo and former Migori County clerk Caspal Obiero are facing trial over the murder of Sharon and her seven-month-old unborn baby on September 3, 2018 at Kowade area in Rachuonyo sub-county within Homa Bay County.

Mula told the court that when they met Obado at his home while in the company of a journalist who was following the case, he was surprised when he called his wife in the meeting and shared his affair with Sharon.

"Obado was open to his wife and children that he had an affair with Sharon. He admitted that Sharon was his girlfriend and although he could not tell at the time if the pregnancy was his, he had agreed to take full responsibility once the baby was born," said Mula.

He added that he continued being the link between Obado and Sharon until September 2, 2018 when the lady, who was a student at Rongo University, told him to keep off their affair. Because of the smooth relationship which existed between the two, Mula told the court that he was shocked to learn that Sharon had been murdered on September 3, 2018.

On Oyamo's involvement in the matter, the witness stated that he believed everything the former PA said and never doubted him whenever he was sent by Obado to deliver money for Sharon's upkeep.

"I never heard any complaint from the former governor about his PA concerning his relationship with Sharon. He also conducted himself well and I don't think he could have had any motive to kill Sharon," said Mula.
