More than 800 traders are counting losses after a huge fire razed structures at Mutindwa market in Buruburu.

Property of unknown value was destroyed in the early morning inferno on Wednesday, June 13.

Residents told The Standard that the fire started at around 2 am.

They lamented that the fire brigade took time before arriving at the scene to contain the situation.

The source of the fire is yet to be established.

Commenting on the situation, Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje has called on the government to urgently deal with people "who are razing down city markets."

"Our traders at Mutindwa market have lost goods worth millions. This is extremely devastating. My sincere apologies to them" said Mwenje.
The incident comes just two days after another inferno razed Toi market in Nairobi.
