Property worth Sh15 million was vandalized after unknown assailants broke into Muindi Mweusi supermarket in Embakasi's Tassia estate on Monday night.

According to the supermarket's Operations Director Peter Maguli who spoke to The Standard, the goons raided the supermarket between 9 and 10pm yester night, after all staff had closed for the day.

Maguli confirmed that the assailants pelted stones on the door, gaining entry.

He claimed that they vandalized property and stole some goods including TV sets, fridges, food stuffs, among other items.

"The goons took advantage of the situation, as the supermarket was closed earlier than usual. They destroyed property and injured one of our staff who had come back after receiving a call of the theft," Maguli said.

The Operations Director said police officers arrived 30 minutes after the goons started looting. A scuffle ensued and ten suspects were arrested.

Embakasi sub-county Police Commander Makau Masai confirmed the incident saying that they were looking into it.

"We managed to arrest 10 suspects who are under our custody. The supermarket owners are yet to record their statement," Masai said.

The police commander linked the looting to the demonstrations that took place in the capital on Monday.

"The suspects might have come from the demonstrations after we barricaded some roads," he added.
