Court freezes plan to push long-distance PSVs out of CBD

Matatus plying Nairobi and upcountry routes can still use the present drop and pick-up points after they secured a court order stopping the shift to the new Green Park Terminus.
The High Court in Nairobi gave a reprieve to the bus operators effectively shielding them from plans by the county government to remove them out of the City Centre from December 1.
The High Court issued a directive that the situation is maintained as it is until further directives are given.
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja had issued a notice to matatus plying long-distance routes including Western, Rift Valley, and other regions in the Eastern to move to Green Park Terminus.
But some 10 Saccos moved to court challenging the move citing that it was unfair to be evicted from the city centre where they had been operating for many years.
The matatu Saccos argued that the directive comes on the eve of the December festivities which is a peak season for the industry.
