Police have been granted by court 14 days to hold a man suspected to have killed his girlfriend in Lang'ata.

While presenting Thomas Mbugua Muthee Monday at a Kibra court, police told senior principal magistrate Monica Maroro that they need time to complete investigations into circumstances surrounding the murder of Naneu Muthoni who was found dead in the suspect's house at Onyonka estate.

Mbugua's lawyers did not object to the application by police to continue holding the man. However, the lawyers said it was their wish if the prosecution would take less than two weeks because their client was arrested after police completed investigations.

"Your honour it's our feeling that when police arrested the accused, it's deemed that they are through with their investigations and we thought they will present him in court and charge him," said the defence.

Lead investigator Inspector Nicolas Langat while filing the application for 14 days said the accused person was a flight risk and could flee the country if released on bond before investigations are concluded.

He added that the accused was arrested at Malaba town on the Kenya-Uganda border last Friday as he planned to cross over to the neighbouring country after fleeing from Langata.

Langat further disclosed Mbugua was arrested following collaboration between Kenyan sleuths and their Ugandan counterparts.
