Some counties have been accused of flouting the law that governs liquor licences.

The National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (Nacada) warned that licensing officers in counties would be arrested and prosecuted, adding that the irregularities were affecting efforts to deal with illicit brews.

According to Nacada Chairman John Mututho, there were massive irregularities in issuing the liquor licenses across the country.

He noted that tens of bars located in residential and near schools had been licensed to operate despite flouting the law.
"We have seen cases where county liquor boards are licensing bars to operate next to schools and we shall take them to court," he said.

Mr Mututho identified Nakuru as one of the counties that had illegally issued licenses to bars located near schools.
