WRC Safari Rally: Christoffersen, Chao optimistic for a good show after Galana boost

The third leg of the 2024 World Rally Championship (WRC), the Safari Rally is set to rev-off in Naivasha on Thursday.
One of the 53 drivers hopeful to make a mark in the global motorsports showpiece is Lisa Christoffersen and her co-driver Mitchelle Chao who will ply trade in a Subaru Imprezza.
The Talanta Hela Ladies Rally Team duo is optimistic to stage a good show on the rough terrains of Naivasha after they landed a sponsorship deal from leading oil marketing firm Galana Energies Limited.
The support will see the duo raise awareness on childhood cancers throughout the rally through their "Driving for Change' initiative.
The cause aims to cover 1,200km and raise Sh 1.2 million.
"For every kilometer we drive, we will donate Sh1,000. It's our way of giving back and making a difference in the lives of those in need," Christoffersen explained.
Galana Energies Limited will sustain the duo with fuel and lubricant throughout the rally as they challenge status quo in the sport dominated by men.
"We are happy with this kind support from Galana Energies Limited, we aim to drive awareness and action by raising funds for children battling cancer, and hopefully improve access to care for the victims," Lioness Rally Founder Christoffersen underlined.
On their part Galana Energies Communication Officer, Sandra Oluoch expressed her enthusiasm about the new partnership saying: "Through this sponsorship, we are happy to empower women in sports, igniting the future for Kenyan pioneers and trailblazers.
"We are delighted to join hands with the Talanta Hela Ladies Rally Team. We are happy to be associated with such a progressive outfit that is driving for a noble cause. We are committed to Energizing Kenya's Future, and this partnership embodies our commitment."
Most of Christoffersen and Chao's preparations for this year's rally involved fundraising and getting the car ready, and they are glad to have ticked the bucket.
Regarding their target in the Safari Rally this season, Christoffersen underlined: "We want to finish the rally and stand on the podium, not just for ourselves but for all the women and girls who dare to dream."
