The stage is set for a bruising battle as scribes tee off today in the 11th leg of the Airtel Media Golf Challenge at the Golf Park. The rebranded Airtel has committed to continue supporting the tournament owing to its strategic importance and nurturing the game among journalists.

Royal Media’s Tony Timase, K24’s Tony Kwalanda, James Waindi from The Standard, Charles Kerich of The Star and Kipchilat Kimaru from the Presidential Press Service are among the players who will be battling it out for a hotly-contested media golfer of the year award to be awarded by Airtel on December 18.

Airtel’s head of Corporate Communications Dick Omondi said the tournament is a continuation of the Zain Media Challenge started one and a half years ago to encourage all scribes to bond and play golf. Thirty journalists will face off in the competition that will feature stableford format.

The set up has five players who have shared winning accolades since the media challenge series was launched. Arguably, Tony Timase from the Royal Media Services seems to be the finest of them all having won several events.

The other lead contender, Kipchilat Kimaru, drove off to a superb start this year, winning the first leg in January.
