Cristiano Ronaldo is getting in the Halloween spirit after dressing up as a scary clown.

The Juventus star shared a picture of his family with masks on to his 144.5 million Instagram followers on Wednesday morning.

With no midweek game, Ronaldo was making the most of the downtime to enjoy the occasion with his loved ones.

Alongside a picture of himself in a scary clown mask, he wrote: "Happy Halloween to everyone!!"

It's not the first time the 33-year-old has dressed up for Halloween.

In 2016, Ronaldo transformed himself into an unrecognisable ghoul for the spooky celebrations.

He donned a creepy cape, wig, mask and blood-stained fangs, posing for a photo with his fingers poised as claws.

He was posing alongside a friend, who wore a red cape and V for Vendetta mask.

Although there was little to identify who was who, Ronaldo gave himself away by standing in his trademarked legs-wide stance, the iconic pose he strikes before taking free-kicks.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo has overtaken Selena Gomez to become the most followed user on Instagram.

The Portugal and Juventus player now leads the way on the social media platform with 145 million followers, slightly ahead of Gomez's 144.3 million.

Ronaldo posts regularly on Instagram, giving fans a glimpse into his gruelling fitness routine as well as pictures of his family and of him on the pitch.

Barcelona's Lionel Messi, considered by many to be the only player to rival Ronaldo in world football, has 100 million followers.
