Golf: Masai bids colleagues farewell in superb style

Muthemba opens the year with brilliant victory in Thika.

Nyali golf and country club’s outgoing lady captain Joyce Masai bade an early farewell to her colleagues as she took advantage of home course to chalk up January 2018 medal tournament victory on Saturday.

Masai, who is set to relinquish her post next weekend, carded 76 nett in the day-long 18-hole course.

Despite playing four bogey shots in both nines, the handicap 12 golfer recovered six level pars and eight bogey shots to win the Division One category. “My one year tenure in office ends this weekend and the victory is my surprise gift,” said Masai.

Runner up spot

On nett 78, club mate and handicap 28 golfer Farida Saeed emerged Division Two winner while handicap 21 Jayne Githere, club mate and on 78 nett, took runner up spot.

Playing off  handicap 10, Nyali’s Rajiv Dhutia scored 69 nett  to  win the division one mug while club mates –handicap 18 Pyara Singh on 70 nett and handicap 27 Bruno Gerber on 73 nett –emerged Division Two and Three winners respectively.

At the par 72 Thika Sports Club, home club’s  handicap 25 Eunice Muthemba posted  65 nett to win the  2018 Year Opener crown on Saturday as club mate and handicap 22 Charles Waihenya claimed  the men’s  title with 68 nett.

Home club’s handicap 27 Agnes Kuria win the Lady’s title with 71 nett while Limuru’s handicap 17 J Nzioka with 72 nett carried the guest title.

And at the par 72 Vet lab course, home club’s handicap 19 Maurice Oyugi won the 2018 Athletes in Action tournament with 41 points.
