Manchester United suffered a blow in their pursuit of Antoine Griezmann with Barcelona chief Josep Bartomeu reported to have met the France international's family with a view to a move next summer.

The Atletico Madrid superstar has a €100m (£88m) buy-out clause and could join the Blaugrana next summer.

Bartomeu dined with Griezmann's family, claim Mundo Deportivo, with the player's sister representing him after switching agents this year.

The Red Devils were strongly linked with Griezmann last summer before switching targets to Romelu Lukaku.

Griezmann then committed to another season with Diego Simeone and could be rewarded with Atleti moving to within three points of Barcelona.

Fernando Torres grabbed the winner in the 1-0 win over Alaves with La Liga in danger of a title race breaking out if the Blaugrana drop any more points.

Griezmann has struggled for form this season, scoring just seven goals in 17 appearances, though he remains highly rated by Barcelona.

Ernesto Valverde will look to sign Griezmann before next summer's World Cup, where he will play a big part in France's hopes of claiming a second title.
