The Gunners resisted offers from Manchester City on deadline day after Sanchez returned in the 4-0 thrashing at Liverpool.

And while the international break has come at a good time for Arsene Wenger, the Gunners boss will be frustrated to learn of his talisman's injury scare.

The 28-year-old is now a major doubt for La Roja's World Cup qualifier against Bolivia on Tuesday.

The Arsenal star left training with an ice pack around his left ankle.

Reports indicate that medical staff are assessing the player and are confident he can push through the pain barrier to feature at the Estadio Hernando Siles in La Paz.

Chile will likely risk Sanchez if they can due to their current predicament for Russia 2018.

A heavy 3-0 defeat at home to Paraguay last week has left their World Cup qualification in doubt with just goal difference separating themselves and Argentina, who occupy the play-off spot, and two points from Peru in sixth.
