Golf: Handicap 17 Kamau clinches Dedan Kimathi golf title

Arthur Kamau carded an identical score of 22 stableford points on both nines for a total of 44 points to clinch the Dedan Kimathi University charity golf title at the par 71 Nyeri Golf Club over the weekend.

Kamau, playing off handicap 17, was in great shape as he sank three birdies on the outward nine, then added two more birdies on the inward nine - mixed with a couple of pars and a sprinkle of bogeys.

The tournament was sponsored by the Postal Corporation of Kenya.

"My tee-shots were A1 and my short game was equally superb throughout the round which helped me win," said Kamau.

Nanyuki Sports Club's Gabriel Miungi was the Men winner on 39 (19+20) stableford points, beating Samuel Kiragu, who had 39 (20+19) stableford points, on countback.

Nyeri Club captain Bishop Kamere was Men third on 37 (17+20) stableford points, Arthur Muchiri was Men fourth on 37 (19+18) stableford points, while George Kiguta finished fifth on 37 (22+15) stableford points.

Handicap 36 Racheal Karuri was the Lady winner with 34 (16+18) stableford points. Stella Mwangi, playing off handicap 5, was the Lady runner-up on a score of 32 (13+19) stableford points.

Susan Ngure, playing off handicap 22, was the staff winner on a score of 41 (20+21) stableford points, while Postal Corporation Managing Director Dan Kagwe won the sponsor's prize with 30 (15+15) stableford points.

Vipingo Rigde golfer Amos Ngonjo won the Gross prize with 78 gross as Vet Lab's Munyua Leonard Munyua took the Guest prize on a score of 39 (21+18) stableford points.

JohnBenson Mungai and Pauline Kiguta were the first and second nine winners on 19 and 20 stableford points respectively.

Handicap 13, S. Githitu, won the senior prize with 33 (18+15) stableford points. [Mose Sammy]
