For Kaveke, this was not her favourite sport and it took a lot of convincing from her friends to start playing golf last April.

It only took eight months for her to bag her first prize after she won the Chairman’s (Peter Kimanga) Prize tournament as a guest at the Mombasa Golf Club.

The little-known Nyali lady golfer recently won the 2017 Kenya Revenue Authority golf tournament.

And on Saturday, as she prepared for the day's games, she told her husband: “I must win the 2017 AAR Insurance golf event.”

And true to her word, Kaveke braved the chilly weather to win on 38 stableford points at the Par 71 course.

“I was playing in memory of my close friend, Judy Njambi, whom we laid to rest in Murang'a on Friday. Though I was tired, I wanted to win,” said Kaveke.

The handicap 35 golfer hit one par at the par four-13th hole and played a mixed bogey shots on the rest of both nines.
