As boxing season comes to an end, clubs will no doubt be scouting for new talent.

And one such place for hunting will be at the three-day Kenya Open Boxing Championships that begin on Thursday at the Kaloleni Social Hall, Nairobi.

Tournament Director Albert Matito said clubs will be allowed to field as many boxers as possible in all weight categories, but they must have taken part in the past Kenya Intermediate Championships.

“We have not set a limit to the number of boxers a club can parade. The only condition will be for the boxers to have participated in the Kenya Intermediate Boxing Championships and qualified for the senior tournament,” he said.

The competition comes barely three weeks after the National Boxing League that was co-hosted at Nyayo Gardens and Madison Square Garden in Nakuru.

Matito, who is also the Boxing Association of Kenya (BAK) Vice President, said 16 clubs will take part in the Thursday event.

“All clubs taking part in the league will participate in the tournament and it is equally open to other clubs and players, but they must adhere to the laid down rules by the federation,” said Matito.

Champions Kenya Police and Kenya Defence Forces will take part.
