The Special One as he is popularly known has always been a larger than life manager who seems perfectly suited to life as United boss.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Portuguese.

How old is Jose Mourinho?

Born on 26 January 1963, Mourinho is 53. He grew up in Setubal, where his father (Jose Mourinho Felix) was a professional footballer for Vitoria Setubal and Belenenses – he earned one cap for Portugal and had a management career of his own that spanned 20 years, largely in the second tier of Portuguese football.

Mourinho had a professional career for a short time – playing under his father at Rio Ave and then Belenenses – before retiring to focus on coaching.

The United boss is 53-years-old.

He started as an assistant at Porto, then spent four years at Barcelona.

Of course, Mourinho went on to become one of the most successful coaches of all-time.

He has won eight league titles in four countries, the Champions League with Porto and Inter Milan as well as eight other trophies.

How tall is Jose Mourinho?

The manager is shorter than people may expect, standing at 1.74m or 5ft 7in.

Long-time rival Arsene Wenger stands at 6ft 2in.

How much is José Mourinho paid?

Mourinho is the joint-highest paid manager in the world – picking up the same salary as another of his main rivals, Man City boss Pep Guardiola.

The Manchester pair are each paid a massive £15million annually by their clubs, with the task of winning the Premier League.

Mourinho’s wages are nearly triple what previous manager Louis van Gaal, was earning. The Dutchman earning around £5.5m each year at the club.

Bayern Munich boss Carlo Ancelotti is the only other manager in the same ballpark as Mourinho and Guardiola, the Italian earns £11m per year.

Arsene Wenger gets paid £8.3m at Arsenal, with Zinedine Zidane on £8m at Real Madrid.

Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp and Barcelona’s Luis Enrique each earn £7m per year.
